Why is one home inviting, you feel at home and want to stay there? Why is another – that looks similar - cold and uninviting and you are not comfortable there? The key differences are their Feng Shui energies.

Each building has a unique energy blueprint, which determines where the different types of energies are located within it.  It gives us information of how to let the most radiant life force enter and circulate through the building, and where the best places for support, sleep and relaxation are.

Feng Shui energies further inform us how to best utilize and decorate each room or section of a building It gives us the colours and décor that will enhance its best potential and reduce the impact of any negative influences.

This is how this works:

The most advanced and effective system of FengShui isthe Flying Star system. It analyses the changing (flying)energies that a building is subject to over time.

Nothing stays the same. You would find that - even if you kept it painted and freshly decorated - a building would change over a long period of time, say 50 years. Some would loose their original radiance; other would gain in character and life force in different time periods - all depending on their energy chart and layout.

Significant energy changes occur in Feng Shui every 20 years. The 20 year period, in which a building was built, determines its basic energy chart. This is when the energies of 'heaven' and 'earth' were locked together in a particular combination. An energy chart tells us what types of energies come into the building from the different compass directions. A building keeps its energy chart for its life time.

However, every 20 years, the effect of these energies on us changes. We are currently in period 8, which began inFebruary 2004. Currently the wealth energy is the #8 Yang energy. This will come into the building from one of the eight compass directions (different in each case). On the other hand, in the 20 year period leading up to 2004, the #7 was the wealth energy – and this comes in from a different direction. Time can have a significant effect on the building’s radiance and the occupants ‘wealth luck’.

So it goes. Each type of energy gradually becomes more or less favourable and strong, or even negative over the course of time. Our job is to find out where the positive energies are located today (in this 20 year period) and how to best activate and use them.

The compass direction is the other factor that goes into working out the energies for a place. In Flying Star Feng Shui the compass is divided into twenty-four 15 degree sections. To construct an accurate energy chart, we need to establish the exact compass orientation of the building, e.g. the 15 degree section it is facing.

Then we use Flying Star formulas to work out its energy blue print. There are altogether 144 different possible energy charts – and these, even if identical, interact differently with each layout.

But this is not all. A building’s layout makes a big difference. Let's consider two buildings, build in the same period, and facing the same direction, eg with the same energy blueprint: One has the front door where the wealth energy comes from, the other has a solid wall there and the front door to the side, where the energy is negative.

The difference between these two building would be like night and day! One would be radiant, the other heavy or irritating.

Besides the front door another important factor is the quality of energy in the bedrooms. Even with an identical chart, you could have a home with the master bedroom in the lovely #8 energy supporting health and wellbeing, and another where the bedroom is located in a less favourable area – big difference.

The type of energies

Each of the energies display a distinct characteristic and influence us accordingly – but only to the degree that they are activated in a particular design. Implication of energies in current period, 2004 - 2023:

# 8 is the prominent and most powerful energy. It is most gentle, bringing steady progress, "wealth" and support for good relationships and health.

# 9 is the second best energy. Is enthusiastic and can do lots of good in good combinations but also activate negative combinations;

# 7 still has a favourable influence but its nature is competitive and aggressive.

# 6 stands for authority and determination. It is good for career and focus.  It is positive when supported, but can bring trouble in ugly environments or with FIRE colours.

# 1 stands for wisdom and love, it helps with studies, but it can also indicate divorce when under attack.

# 3 is aggressive – the up-and-coming young career person - and can suit people needing this energy; in the negative it can contribute to theft and lawsuit.

# 4 is associated with (inappropriate) romance. If used by artists, writers or for academic study it is positive and supports these activities.

Following energies are untimely in period 8 and need to be kept in check:

# 2 can contribute to sickness, but can be successfully used by people in the health professions to help heal such energies.

# 5 is often a cruel ‘tyrant’ to can wreck havoc and mishap in lot of ways. It can be used by very strong leader as it is the emperor energy. Requires strong ethical leadership to be used successfully.

Sample Energy Chart of a House

The energy patterns of a house can give valuable insights in what quality of living is occurring there. This home was build in the 1990s and faces 256 degrees west:

feng shui energies
The right number in each box represents the Yang energy in this area, the radiant active energy that is connected to wealth; the left is the Yin energy that is important for good health & nurturing relationships. The bottom one belongs to the time period of the building, it stands for opportunity.

For active spaces or doors, we read the Yang energies, for quiet spaces the Yin energies.

Caution: Interpreting the energies is what a large portion of Feng Shui training is about. Do not just read numbers in a box or room. Not all energies are active. How to read this energy chart goes beyond the scope of this webpage.

If you want to improve the Feng Shui of your home or office, or are designing a house or moving offices, it pays to have a Feng Shui analysis to give you a guideline as to how to best use the energy potential of your space. This can save you time and money involved with activating the wrong energies.

"Hi Brigitte, Thank you so much for the consultation – you certainly gave us a lot to think about. We were very inspired on Saturday and spent the whole evening moving furniture around until midnight !(basically have swapped the two living rooms over as you suggested and moved my desk into the area where we were sitting with you). We still have a lot more to do but we were immediately very thrilled with the results – an instant transformation. Kind regards, A.O."

“Everything is going wonderfully; everyone can feel the difference in the office. I have got a great fish tank with lovely fish. I just need to organize another fish bowl for the back section. My cousin came into the office today and commented on how well the office looked with the fish and the total atmosphere. I told her that I had called in a Feng Shui lady, she wanted your number and called you from my office straight away. We have had great improvements, I am very happy with everything, now I am planning to have you come and see my home.” M.C., Managing Director, Recruitment National Pty Ltd, Sydney
