feng shui history

Feng Shui has a rich over-six-thousand year old history in China and has come into the West early this century.

Chinese people considered themselves an integral part of the universe. Being in the right place at the right time, and being able to take advantage of opportunities is easier in a building that is in harmony with Nature.

Throughout Feng Shui history a house site was considered fortunate if it was sheltered from the attack of strong winds and rough waters (or roads), as these unsettle people; and if a gentle breeze and beautiful water enhanced the building. On such a site you can be comfortable, relax and function best.

Through the course of Feng Shui history, formulas and principles were established that explain the subtle interactions between matter, space, energy and time in the built environment. Utilising those, a skilled practitioner can create harmony and synchronicity, a place that makes you feel good.

The Power of Traditional Feng Shui

Real Feng Shui knowledge was a tightly guarded secret. It used to be passed - on their deathbed - from master to master. This has contributed to the loss and fragmentation of valuable knowledge: often false information was passed to adversaries, or only partial information was passed on.

Additionally, while the general population had some basic workable Feng Shui information, it was also rife with superstitions and generalisations.

We are lucky, in the 1980s and 90s, a handful of Chinese scholars and masters sifted through Feng Shui data and scriptures – and have brought workable traditional Feng Shui methods to the west.

While there exists still conflicting knowledge, we at least have it all available to us and have the opportunity to test it for ourselves – and only use those methods that have proven to be successful in any situation.

With traditional Feng Shui we now have the tools to measure the unique influences in a place, and how these change over time. It can be applied to any style and taste.

It gives us the tools to not only make a space look good, but also make it feel right – to create beauty that goes more than skin deep!
